The description and pictures are right-on. The cottage was very clean and had everything needed for an enjoyable stay. Jan was so helpful and went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. Be sure to read her blog as it is full of information about the area. It is a quiet country setting yet not far in every direction to drive to an attraction that we wanted to go to. We recommend this property.

My husband, my dog and i stayed at Jan's over the Thanksgiving weekend and fully enjoyed ourselves. the cottage had everything anyone could want: gas bbq, little wood stove, all minor appliances, fridge, stove, oven, TV's with cable and DVD player and even wifi. Jan and her husband were warm and welcoming as was Sadie, their sweet dog. We took our 90 lb guy walking with us in the Withlacoochee and through the old parts of town and were happy to notice that any other dogs we saw were safely kept behind fences with locked gates. Inverness is not exactly Miami Beach but then, that's where we were escaping from.

Wonderful holiday. This is a great place to stay. there are many things to do in the area. We cycled the trails from the guesthouse, we traveled to the state parks and canoed various rivers and had the opportunity of scratching the belly of a manatee. There is so much to do and Jan's guest House is a wonderful place to call home. We highly recommend this accommodation.

"Spacious, inviting hide-away in a quiet, well-maintained neighborhood" is how I would describe this perfect retreat house. Our hostess was unassuming and gracious with the unique ability of making one feel right at home. We would highly recommend Jan's Highland Guest House for your next stay in West/Central Florida, as my extended family had plenty of room, inside and out, for fixing meals, playing games, and exercise. thank you, Jan, for a wonderful week in sunny FLORIDA!

If you prefer peace and quiet while still having access to internet, tv, etc. this is a wonderful spot out of town but within minutes of anything you need. Our children came to visit and I prepared a delicious meal w/ all the dinnerware, pans etc. necessary to do that. We so fell in love w/ the shower head that we bought 2 of them for our new home in Inverness. Yes, this stay helped us decide to spend the rest of our years in this small city that is more relaxed, like the small town atmosphere we're used to. We made several trips to neighboring places, the best being Rainbow River park which is beautiful and we had dinner on the bay in Crystal River which is a short drive. the owner of this property is always available for any questions that arise, but otherwise one would never know she's there. Sitting out on the covered back porch (yes, in August, folks) for coffee in the morning and watching for critters in the evening is one of our nicest memories. Traffic is almost non-existent and one can go for walks and feel safe. Give Jan a call and book your vacation at this off-the-beaten-track, roomy and totally equipped "paradise". and if you are into the attractions you are only an hour and a half away from Orlando or our favorite, Busch Gardens in Tampa where you would pay much more for much less.

Trout House: a previously owned vacation rental

We have very much enjoyed our stay this week at the Trout House. It is a cute cottage/house and very comfortable. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio and our little Scottie loved the back yard. We had fun exploring the neighborhood and found the bike path where we took our morning walks. We found the people in Inverness to be very friendly and we have really enjoyed the town.
